Faces of Caliber: Tim Gonsalves on Leadership, Culture, and Putting People First
Tim Gonsalves spends his days focused on the people of Caliber. Not just roles or titles, but the people themselves. In an industry that often defines people by what they do, Tim believes siloing people in roles can limit what they’re capable of. Everyone has potential. Everyone can make a difference when they are seen, supported, and trusted.
“In construction, we put labels on people. You’re just a carpenter. You’re just an operator.”
For Tim, that mindset is something worth challenging. He believes growth happens when people are encouraged to think beyond the boxes they’re in. When people are given the space to contribute, to think creatively, and to take ownership, teams become stronger and more connected.
That approach starts early in the day. Tim is intentional about how he begins his mornings. He believes setting his head straight before the pace of the day picks up matters. They shape how he shows up for others.
“Win the morning, win the day.”
Outside of work, Tim’s running journey reflects that same belief in growth over time. Due to a neurological condition called CMT, Tim cycles as it is lower impact and better suited to how his body responds. The first attempt at running was painful and short. But pushing through a few kilometers became more. The progress was slow, but meaningful and eventually, he was running ten kilometers.
“It hurt like crazy, but I could see myself growing.”
That experience reinforced something Tim carries into his work. Growth is rarely comfortable, but it strengthens you.
Tim’s path into his role was not traditional. Before construction, he spent close to fifteen years working in non-profits and community-based organizations like youth centres. Eventually, he wanted to apply that experience closer to home.
He’s quick to say he is not HR. His focus is not process first. It is people first. Relationships before systems. Seeing individuals as humans, not headcount.
“I want people to feel heard, seen, and encouraged.”
When asked how he hopes to leave a mark on Caliber’s people and interactions, Tim does not talk about outcomes or performance. He talks about hope. A small amount of encouragement. Enough to help someone keep going.
To hear more from Tim in his own words, watch the full video below. It offers a deeper look at how he approaches his role, how he supports teams, and what drives his focus on people and potential.
At the heart of Tim’s work is a simple belief. When people are seen for who they are and trusted in who they can become, real growth takes place.
